OUR IMPACT

1. Reduction of Waste

  • Upcycling Materials: By repurposing excess resources from The Egyptian Clothing Bank, Almah effectively reduces textile waste that would otherwise end up in landfills. This practice minimizes the environmental footprint associated with clothing disposal.
  • Preserving Value: Leaving some materials untouched allows for the preservation of their inherent value, promoting a culture of reuse rather than disposal.

2. Sustainable Fashion Practices

  • Timeless Designs: The focus on creating unique and timeless designs helps counter fast fashion trends that contribute to overconsumption and environmental degradation. By promoting styles that transcend seasons, Almah encourages customers to invest in quality rather than quantity.

3. Promoting Circular Economy

  • Rental Model: Offering a collection of exquisite and rare findings for rent promotes a circular economy, allowing customers to enjoy fashion without the need for ownership. This reduces demand for new production, which is resource-intensive.

4. Education and Awareness

  • Workshops and Skill Development: Almah serves as a skill development hub, providing educational workshops that equip individuals, particularly women and youths, with knowledge about sustainable practices in the fashion industry. This education fosters a deeper understanding of the environmental and social impacts of fashion, encouraging participants to make informed choices.
  • Inspiring Conscious Consumerism: By raising awareness about sustainable practices, Almah helps inspire a shift towards conscious consumerism, encouraging individuals to consider the environmental and social implications of their purchasing decisions.

5. Community Engagement and Collaboration

  • Partnerships for Sustainability: Collaborating with various organizations and individuals amplifies Almah’s impact, creating a broader movement for sustainable living. By working together, these partnerships can lead to more significant changes within communities and industries.

6. Empowerment of Women and Youth

  • Social Responsibility: As a women-led entity, Almah not only focuses on environmental sustainability but also on social empowerment. By equipping women and youths with skills and knowledge, Almah fosters economic opportunities and encourages responsible leadership in sustainability efforts.

Workshops

We provide hands-on workshops in a variety of craft techniques, from weaving and patchwork to embroidery, fabric accessories, and leatherwork. Open to all ages and expertise levels, our workshops take place at events and academic institutions, offering individuals the opportunity to learn valuable, sustainable skills. By fostering creativity and education, we aim to inspire and equip participants with the knowledge to embrace sustainable practices in their own artistic work.

Collaborations

Through our collaborations, we connect with designers, both established and emerging to exchange ideas, expertise, and resources. By sharing knowledge of upcycling methods and fabric manipulation techniques, we encourage designers to reuse, repurpose, and adopt sustainable practices in their work. We collaborate across four key phases: design & planning, sourcing, production, and retail & marketing. Each phase contributes equally to the overall profit, ensuring mutual benefit for all involved. Through these partnerships, we strive to raise awareness and promote the adoption of sustainable practices within the design community.

Rentals

We offer a unique rental service, providing access to a diverse collection of clothing ranging from historical garments to one of a kind designs and materials, as well as home accessories, electronic devices, and books. By sharing these rare resources, we aim to reduce waste and single-use items while expanding the possibilities for creatives to execute their visions. This service promotes a circular economy by offering our community the opportunity to borrow instead of purchase, thus reducing the environmental footprint.
